How much does window tinting cost?
Prices start at £119 for a 3-door hatchback and go up to £199 for saloons, 4x4s and large SUVs. Estate cars, convertibles and pick-ups are £179. The price is the same regardless of which shade you choose. Vans and 7-seaters are quote on request. See the full pricing table above or request a quote if you're not sure.
How long does window tinting take?
Most rear window tints are done in around 55 minutes. 3-door hatchbacks can be quicker. Larger vehicles like Range Rovers or 4x4s can take a little longer but rarely more than 2 hours. You don't need to leave your car overnight.
What shades are most popular?
By far the most common choice is 20%. It looks factory-fitted, gives good privacy, and sits in the sweet spot between subtle and dark. For maximum privacy, 5% Limo Black is recommended. We have a physical sample board in the office so you can see both shades on real glass before deciding.
Is it legal? Will I be pulled by the police?
Tinting rear windows is completely legal in the UK. You can use any shade on rear windows. The only legal limit applies to front side windows, which must allow at least 70% of light through. All cars already have front windows at or close to the legal limit, so any further tinting to the front would not be road legal. We only tint rear windows by default and will always confirm the legal position with you before starting.
Will it pass an MOT?
Yes, absolutely. Tinted rear windows have no bearing on an MOT whatsoever. If you ever have any issue with a local garage, get in touch and we will help sort it out directly.
What if the tint develops a fault?
Every job comes with a Lifetime warranty backed by both Utopia Tints and the film supplier. If you ever have bubbles, fading, peeling or any other issue at any point, get in touch and we will book you in for an immediate re-fit at no charge.
How long until I can put my windows down?
We recommend leaving the windows up for at least 15 days to let the film cure fully. In an emergency you can roll them down, but doing so within the first 5 days risks the film peeling at the edges.
How long until I can clean my windows?
We clean the windows before handing the car back. We recommend waiting at least 5 days before cleaning them yourself. After that, normal car shampoo and a soft cloth is fine. Avoid abrasive products or anything with ammonia.
Will the tint ever peel off on its own?
Using quality film installed properly, no. Our tints have never been known to peel off on their own. If it ever did, the Lifetime warranty covers it. The film is also designed to be removable if you ever want it taken off later.
