How much does PPF cost?
Honest answer. Paint Protection Film at Utopia ranges from £1,695 for a small hatchback front end up to £5,295+ for full coverage on a large SUV. The exact price comes down to three things.
Coverage Area
A Front End protects the panels most exposed to motorway debris: bumper, bonnet, wings, mirrors. A Full Coverage wraps every painted exterior panel. Track Pack and the Defender Lower Half sit in between.
Vehicle Size
A Fiat 500 uses a fraction of the film a Range Rover needs. Small hatchbacks sit at the bottom of the scale, large SUVs at the top. Defenders and supercars usually fall in the middle.
Complexity
Sharp creases, deep arches, carbon trim, complex spoilers and bespoke body kits all add fitting time. A standard saloon takes less than a Defender 110 with a roof rack. We price for the panels and the panel geometry.

- Only fixes damage already done. The next stone chip starts the process over.
- Permanent. The original factory paint is gone, and that shows up on inspection reports.
- Colour match on metallic and pearl finishes is hard to nail. The panel rarely matches perfectly.
- Two or three resprays over five years and you've outspent the PPF, with worse paint to show for it.

How long does PPF last?
High-quality Paint Protection Film lasts 10 to 12 years when properly maintained. The premium STEK film we install is backed by a 10 year manufacturer warranty on DYNOshield Gloss and 12 years on DYNOmatte.
Longevity depends on driving conditions, mileage and how the car is washed. Avoiding automated brush washes and using safe wash techniques will see it last well past the warranty period.
Will PPF damage my paint when removed?
No. When installed correctly and removed professionally, Paint Protection Film does not damage factory paint. In most cases it preserves the paint underneath in near-original condition.
This is one of the biggest reasons high-value vehicles get PPF. When you sell the car, the protected panels show up on inspection reports as original factory paint, which holds resale value far better than respray work.
Does PPF go yellow over time?
Modern premium PPF used at Utopia Tints is designed to resist yellowing. Lower-quality films can discolour over time, particularly on white vehicles. This is why we only use proven, high-grade film backed by long-term manufacturer warranties that specifically cover yellowing, cracking and delamination.
Is PPF worth it?
For vehicles regularly on UK motorways and country roads, PPF is one of the most cost-effective ways to prevent stone chips and paint damage. It is especially worthwhile for:
- Brand new vehicles
- High-value or performance cars
- Long-term ownership
- Lease vehicles where condition matters at handback
A single bonnet respray often costs more than a Front End PPF package, and a respray will not stop the next stone chip.
Can PPF be washed and ceramic coated?
Yes. PPF can be washed as normal once fully cured. We recommend safe wash techniques, two-bucket method, soft microfibre, no automatic brush washes.
Ceramic coating can also be applied on top of PPF to enhance gloss, hydrophobic properties and ease of maintenance. Many of our PPF customers add a ceramic coat at the same time as the film install.
Do you offer PPF for Defenders and Range Rovers?
Yes. We are Defender specialists and regularly install Front End, Track Pack, Lower Half and Full Coverage PPF on Land Rover Defender 90, Defender 110, Range Rover, Range Rover Sport and Discovery models.
Our Lower Half package £3,990 inc VAT mirrors the Land Rover factory option, protecting sills, lower bumpers, wings and arches against off-road wear and stone chips.
How long does PPF installation take?
Typical fit times by package:
- Front End: 2 to 3 days
- Track Pack: 5 to 7 days
- Defender Lower Half: 1 to 2 days
- Full Coverage: 7 to 10 days
All work is carried out at our Durham studio under controlled lighting and curing conditions. We never rush a PPF installation. The finished vehicle has to be right.
How is PPF fitted?
Paint Protection Film is precision-installed using advanced cutting software and expert hand-finishing. Each panel is digitally plotted from manufacturer-specific templates and cut on a professional vinyl plotter, so there is no trimming directly on the vehicle.
The film is then installed using specialist slip solutions, allowing perfect positioning before all moisture and air are squeegeed out. Edges are wrapped wherever possible for a seamless, almost-invisible finish. The film is then left to cure in a controlled indoor environment.
