What is involved
Fitted properly, switched properly.
A light bar is only as good as the way it is mounted and the way it is wired. Ours goes on permanently and runs off a hard-wired switch on the dash, not the remote fob that comes in the box.
Fixed securely to the roof
This is a permanent install, sat across the front of the roof line so it reads as part of the car rather than something strapped on for the weekend.
Wired into a dedicated switch
The bar gets its own switch with an indicator light, so you always know when it is on. No hunting for a fob, no guessing from the driver's seat. The switch is also how the bar stays out of the way at MOT time, which is the next point.
Not MOT compliant, so it goes on a switch
Straight answer, because you will find out eventually anyway: a bar this bright is not MOT compliant and has to be off for the test. That is exactly why we hard-wire it to its own switch rather than leaving it live. Add the Lazer CANny Module and you can lock it off entirely while the car is in.
We leave the supplied remote in the box
These bars come with a remote control. We do not use them, because they fail in winter. A hard-wired switch is one less thing to go wrong in January.
Around 90 minutes, then away
Budget 90 minutes at the workshop. The car is driveable within 30 minutes of us finishing, so it is comfortably a morning job.
Most owners have the bar done alongside vents, DRLs or a wheel package, so the car only comes in once.

Light bar FAQs
Worth asking before you book.
Straight answers from the workshop. Anything not covered here, message Mitchell and he will come back personally.
How much is the roof light bar, fitted?
£899 inc VAT (£749.17 ex VAT), supplied and fitted at our Durham workshop. That covers the bar, the wiring, a dedicated switch with an indicator light, and the labour.
The bar is supplied by Hunters Prestige.
How bright is it?
Over 50,000 lumens of high-output LED illumination.
Because there is that much output on the roof, the bar is wired to its own switch with an indicator light, so you always know when it is on.
Will it fit my Defender?
It fits the Defender 90, 110 and 130.
Send your registration over and we will confirm against your exact car before anything is booked in.
How long does the fitting take?
Around 90 minutes at the workshop, and the car is driveable within 30 minutes of us finishing.
In practice it is a morning job. Most owners drop the car off and pick it up the same day.
Is it a permanent fit?
Yes. The bar is fixed securely to the roof as a permanent install, not a temporary mount you take off and put back on.
How is it switched on and off?
It is wired into a dedicated switch with an indicator light, so you always know when it is on.
These bars are supplied with a remote control. We do not use them, because they fail in winter. A hard-wired switch is one less thing to go wrong.
Is the light bar road legal, and will it pass an MOT?
The bar is not MOT compliant, so it has to be off for the test. That is why we hard-wire it to its own switch rather than leaving it live, and why we do not use the supplied remote.
If you add the Lazer CANny Module you can keep it off entirely while the car is in for its MOT. Worth knowing that the vented fog lights and the grille light DRL are different, those are both fully road legal with nothing to switch off.
What is the Lazer CANny Module?
An optional add-on at £399 inc VAT (£332.50 ex VAT). It lets the bar run off your high beam or be controlled from an app, instead of the dash switch, and it lets you keep the bar off while the car goes in for its MOT.
Tell us when you book if you want it, and we will fit it at the same time.
Will this affect my Land Rover factory warranty?
Under UK Block Exemption rules, the manufacturer can only refuse a warranty claim if they can demonstrate a modification directly caused the specific fault.
If you're under factory warranty and want to check first, a quick word with your Land Rover dealer is worth doing. Our 12 month workmanship guarantee covers everything we fit.
Do I need to declare it to my insurer?
Most modifications need declaring to your insurer. Some can affect your premium, others won't. We'd always recommend a quick call to your insurer before booking so you know exactly where you stand on cover and cost.
We supply itemised invoices that make it straightforward to declare what's been fitted.
Where is your workshop and do I need to come to Durham?
Unit 1, Dragonville Industrial Park, Dragon Lane, Durham, DH1 2XJ. We're five minutes from the A1 and easy reach of the A19.
Customers travel from Newcastle, Sunderland, Middlesbrough, Darlington, Yorkshire and beyond. Easy off-street parking on site.
What warranty do I get on the work?
12 month workmanship guarantee on every install. Parts carry their own manufacturer warranty on top, in this case from Hunters Prestige.
If anything we fitted stops behaving as it should within that time, bring the car back and we'll sort it.

Send your reg over
One morning. Whole new face.
Send Mitchell your registration and he will confirm the fit for your Defender, a firm price and a workshop slot. Usually the same working day.
The bar pairs with the vents, DRLs and wheel packages on the full Defender range, where you can price a whole build in one go. Already having other work done? Tell us and the car only comes in once.
