Fitting Available
At Utopia Plates, we go beyond just creating your ideal number plates - we offer the convenience of fitting them for you too. For a nominal fee ranging between £20 and £30, we can seamlessly attach your new plates, ensuring they are securely and properly fixed to your vehicle. The fee is based on the current fitting method of your existing plates, as some methods require more time and resources to remove. However, we would like to note that our fitting service is subject to staff availability.

If you are local to Durham, we have a walk-in store available for collections from Monday to Saturday, 9:30am to 4:30pm. You can place your order online and choose collection at the checkout, or order in person and pay via cash or card. Please bring your ID and proof of entitlement to the registration when coming to collect. Our workshop is based in Dragonville Industrial Park, Durham, DH1 2XJ.

The law permits the purchase of number plates as a gift, so the names do not need to match on both documents. You can use your own ID, and the entitlement certificate belonging to a family member or friend to purchase number plates from us.

Unfortunately, an email receipt is not sufficient proof under the DVLA regulations to prove entitlement to a registration. We’ll need to see an official document, such as the V750 certificate of entitlement - this will arrive in the post 2-3 working days after purchasing from DVLA, or longer from a third-party registration dealer.

Yes; our 3D & 4D plates are 100% legal, here is a link to the DVLA Government website that states “Characters on a number plate can be 3D.” - Government Number Plate Rules. (‘4D’ is just an industry standard name, they are still 3D)
Shortened number plates are fully road legal, as well. This is explained more in a question on this page.
We will only produce fully road legal number plates, and will not fulfil requests for show plates.

You will not be pulled by Police in Sunderland for your number plates as they are NOT illegal. If you have any issues at all, feel free to give us a call.

Standard UK number plates have a dimension of 520mm length by 111mm height. This is what you will see on the majority of cars on UK roads.

Absolutely will 100% pass an MOT. It is not illegal to have your rear windows tinted, you can have them any shade that you like.
Being in the motor trade we know most of the local garages, if you have any issues in Sunderland with MOTs please feel free to contact us and we will contact the garage for you.

1. Identification
You can use the following to confirm your name and address:
Utility bill, Telephone bill, Council Tax bill or rates bill from the last 6 months
Bank or building society statement from the last 6 months
Driving Licence (Photo-card or paper counterpart)
National Identity Card
The ID document you provide does not need to match the entitlement document; this is because the laws permit buying number plates as a gift.
2. Registration Entitlement
You can use the following to confirm your Registration Entitlement:
Vehicle registration certificate (V5C or V5CNI)
New keeper supplement (V5C/2 or V5C/2NI)
Certificate of entitlement to the number (V750 or V750NI)
Retention document (V778)
A renewal reminder for vehicle tax or SORN (V11 or V11NI)
Temporary registration certificate (V379 or V379NI)
A number plate authorisation certificate with an official stamp from the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA) or Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) - (V948)
An electronic number plate authorisation certificate (eV948)
A letter of authorisation from a fleet operator (including lease or hire company) quoting the document reference number from the registration certificate
If your fleet is in the new V5C on demand scheme (also called ‘V5C suppression’), a PDF of the vehicle’s details from the view vehicle record service
